Meet a Broker: Amanda Morris | Managing Director, Arma Insurance Brokers Hunter Valley

Amanda Morris is a Hunter Valley-based insurance broker and Managing Director of Arma Insurance Brokers, Hunter Valley. Advisr chatted with Amanda about her experience as a broker, her drive to help businesses succeed and her plans for the future.

 

Tell me a little about yourself

I started my brokerage in 2008 with no experience as an insurance broker at all. Its been the most challenging but rewarding career that has introduced me to so many wonderful people.

I now have a team of 10 and we are very proud to be Hunter Valleys' leading insurance brokerage! I spend a majority of my time working on the business instead of in it now and I really love that. In 2017, I started to train and study Coaching with an intention of Coaching Businesses on how to get the most from their business and life. Today, I have niche into coaching Insurance Brokers as I love our industry and what it has provided for me and my life. I am extremely passionate about helping fellow brokers and have designed several courses and offer coaching packages designed to take them down whatever path they choose, be it retirement, purchasing of new books, enhancing team culture, or getting out of their business and working on it. No matter the desire we can help to get there. Coaching will be my path forward, we are not for every broker as we demand results and that is what sets our Broker Base clients apart from the rest. I wake up every day grateful for what I have in my career and can't wait to help as many people as I can going forward. Thank you.

 

How can business owners benefit from working with an insurance broker?

Simple really, they will get peace of mind knowing they have an advocate on their side the entire way! Insurance is like everything else, you get what you pay for so business owners need to be aware that cheap policies often means cheap cover and zero service. Having an insurance broker will save them time and they will know they have accurate cover for their assets. We spend thousands of dollars on our businesses, homes and cars, and other assets and then buy on price for the protection to replace them. By investing in a broker you can transfer that worry and know you have a comrade on your side all the way!

 

Who makes an ideal insurance client and why?

For our brokerage, an ideal client is a family-owned business that appreciates service and honesty with their broker. 

 

What do you love about being an insurance broker?

I love the connection with people, I really enjoy managing a team and inspiring them, and helping them to have the life they want. The insurance industry is always changing and is challenging and that keeps us on our toes as well.

 

How do you go above and beyond as an insurance broker?

Our service levels we believe benchmark high within the industry. We have a service commitment that we stick by with all of our clients but also have a commitment we expect off our clients as well. We want to do business with like-minded people that value insurance and the purpose of it. We see our role as a partnership and we will always do our best to make sure our clients have their needs met.

 

What has been your experience of marketing your services online?

We have exposure on all of the social media platforms and educate our clients on exposures they may have.

 

Do you have a particular area of expertise?

We are a jack of all trades! We have all types of risks and can handle any type of insurance.

 

Why did you choose it?

That's just the way the book panned out when you start with nothing you have to learn to do everything

 

Which skills are most important for an insurance broker to succeed in today's market?

Resilience by a country mile! Followed by people skills and gratitude

 

What areas of insurance should people be aware of over the next 12 months?

Restricted markets for risks that previously had no issue in placing. The market is tough and brokers need to be starting their renewal process a lot earlier if they want to do the best for their clients.

 

What's next for you and your business?

More coaching in the Insurance Broking space as well as growth within my brokerage by investing in more advanced digital marketing as well as other strategies like automation and streamlining my processes to get more with less. Working smarter not harder is the goal. Also living a life that fills my soul cup and spending time doing things that I enjoy and not just staying on the rat wheel of life.
