Winner of the Valerie Baker Memorial Award

6th winner of the Valerie Baker Memorial Award for general insurance
AIMS, Gold Seal and the Steadfast Group were delighted to announce the winner of the 6th Valerie Baker Memorial Award at a special event hosted by Lloyd's on 28 August in Sydney, attended by senior executives and leading lights from throughout the industry. The Valerie Baker Memorial Award recognises excellence in professional practice in the General Insurance Intermediary sector across Australia and New Zealand. Advisr CEO Andy attended along with Insurance Marketing Specialist Nick Hill of Hillster Marketing.

The winner: Beau Munn
The winner is Beau Munn from Origin Insurance Brokers in Melbourne. Beau is the Executive Director of Origin Insurance Brokers. He started his career in the insurance industry at age of 18 and had his own brokerage by the age of 21. Beau is a young Aboriginal businessman who is passionate about his family heritage and wants to be a role model for other indigenous youths looking for a corporate career in Australia.
Beau thoroughly impressed the judges with his eloquence and passion to add value to his community. We are all excited to see what he brings back from London to help grow his business. Belinda Smith
Belinda started her career by joining the family business in 2001, working her way up from admin duties to managing a client base. In 2013, she took the plunge and started her own business as an Authorised Representative with Western Insurance Brokers in regional Victoria.
Kim is a director of Zenith Insurance Services with 40+ years in the insurance industry. In 2001, he founded Zenith Insurance Services with two other directors. Since its inception, Zenith has grown to 26 direct staff with five authorised representatives servicing clients throughout Australia from their WA office. In 2018, Kim won the NIBA Broker of the Year award. He, and his team at Zenith, have been behind a number of philanthropic projects which have benefited diverse communities worldwide, making Zenith truly a socially responsible corporation.

The panel and judges
The winner of the Valerie Baker Memorial Award followed a process where nominations were shortlisted and the finalists interviewed by the judging panel. The panel consisted of Chris Mackinnon, General Representative Lloyd's Australia, Jim Rudkin, Chairman of Steadfast Insurance Brokers Pty Ltd and Steadfast Underwriting Agencies Pty Ltd, representing the Steadfast Group, Martin McAvenna, representing the AIMS Group and Sheila Baker, Managing Director of Gold Seal, and also this year Rocco Pirrello, a 2018 finalist from GSA Insurance Brokers also participated.

The strength of the cross-industry support from AIMS, Steadfast, Gold Seal as well as Lloyd's is clearly manifesting itself in the tangible business benefits the award is bringing to the winners.
